If we feel pain we need to go to doctor?

Earlier today I went back to the pool, but this time armed with an EXTENSIVE amount of SPF 50 sunscreen (I’m rather fair). I layered it on and made sure no part of my body went untouched. I even walked to the pool with an umbrella opened and a shirt covering my shoulders.

When I got back home I was pleased to notice I didn’t gain any new sunburns and my current ones didn’t worsen. I then took a shower to cleanse and rid of the clumping my sunscreen was starting to do because of the large amount I put on. While in the shower, I had to rub my skin rather hard to rid of the sunscreen, which then resulted in Thursday’s sunburns on my shoulders to start peeling.

I didn’t take much notice, so I continued with my shower and then proceeded to apply lotion afterwards. However, the lotion began to burn my shoulders, even though I hadn’t started peeling off any of the skin that had started to unravel. It was incredibly uncomfortable, so I simply stopped applying the lotion (which I’ve never had problems with before) to my shoulders.

I then began peeling my arms so I could get that out of the way before a party later this week. Yet, the skin underneath is very rough, wrinkly, and even somewhat scaly–like the skin someone might find on his or her elbow. It also looked red blistery, to the point little veins of blood are seemingly visible. This worried me a bit.

A few hours later (aka now) and my shoulders are in a large amount of pain. They feel like they’re burning, the skin is very rough, and I can’t move my shoulders without feeling almost robotic and a sharp stinging sensation. I’ve had numerous sunburns before, and this has NEVER happened.
It’s very painful.

Why is this? Is there something I can do to help my shoulders feel better? Did this happen because the sunburn wasn’t ready to peel?

I’m sorry this is so long, but I wanted to be detailed so that I could receive a better response. I wasn’t sure if my current state was due to something I did earlier, or if this is just natural?
