Can taking in a hefty amount of protein heal muscles faster?

Yesturday my abs and my arms were in a lot of pain from pushing myself a little further than I should have in a workout. That night I went out with the guys and we had some tri-tip roast. Today my muscles feel great, I can still feel them but they don’t hurt. So did taking in that heavy amount of protein help them or did they just heal?

Just curious, thanks for any answers.

How do you ensure your muscles are ‘balanced’?

Lately I’ve improved my diet a lot, and as a result I’ve found that when it comes to weights in the gym, I’m suddenly improving like crazy.

However, my shoulder has become sore (I stopped, and have worked back to light exercises without any pain), and I think the reason was that I wasn’t being careful enough about ‘balancing’ my muscles. I did try and balance them, but I think the problem was that improvements on some muscles became a lot easier than others.

It seems that, for example, it is much easier to push weights forward, than pull them back. It’s easier to push weights up, than pull them down. It’s easier to pull weights inwards, then it is to push them out.

Should I be aiming for 1:1? Or is there a more natural balance; such as pushing 2kg for every 1kg that can be pulled (2:1).

This probably sounds like an odd question - I’d ask the guys who work at the gym for advice, but unfortunately I’m in a foreign country where I’m still learning the language.

How long does it take for whiplash to go away? How do you alleviate the pain?

I was rear-ended by a car going about 25 mph last week. There is still so much pain in my neck and back, especially my left shoulder blade. Neither ice nor heat help. I’m taking a prescription pain-killer and anti-inflammatory medicine for the muscles, but the pain isn’t going away. I’m fairly young, so this should heal fast and not hurt as badly, but it’s hurting A LOT. What can I do to make it hurt less?!

my muscles are so sore, is there something wrong?

So on Friday I tried out for the high school softball team.
It was so hard.
I pushed myself.
I felt fine afterwords, a little tired; but fine.
I woke up the next morning with excruciating muscle soreness/pains.
I tried medication but it never kicked in.
It takes such an effort for me to sit on a chair, get out of bed, and climb the stairs.
I made the softball team.
But right now I’m more worried about my health.

The areas where I’m having pain are:

-thighs
-shoulders
-upper back
-lowerback
-legs (very painful)

Thanks. And ow.

Is it normal to feel sore after a good workout? Or does that mean I should slow down?

I have only been dieting and exercising for about a week now. I have lost 3lbs so far. I was just wondering. 2 days ago I did the toughest workout yet.. “The Firm” and I did it only for about 20 minutes or so and was so beat that I couldnt go any further. It’s actually an hour and a half long DVD. But the next day my upper legs, like the muscles in the front and on the sides of my thighs hurt so bad it was hard to even walk up and down my steps. Is this a good thing for my muscles to feel sore after a good workout? Does that mean they are getting worked out and stretched and that the exercise is working? Or does it mean I pushed it too far? I want to know because they are “still” sore 2 days later and I am afraid to exercise again until I know for sure. I don’t know if I should continue exercising and work the pain out, or if I should wait until it goes away some.
Ok so then I shouldn’t quit, I should keep working out? Thanks for all the advice everyone!

What muscles do dead-lifts work on?

My back was sore all of yesterday from my Friday workout. It included deadlifts, which I hear were great for your lower-back and legs, but the soreness wasn’t just limited to my lower-back. My upper-back was fairly sore as well. Exactly what muscle groups do deadlifts work anyway?

Oh, and before I get reamed for this, it wasn’t pain, just regular soreness that I usually get when I workout. I followed proper form, and I didn’t feel uncomfortable in the least when I was doing them
