Left side pain-Please help?

I am 14 weeks pregnant. This morning I woke up with a slight pain on my left side. It is higher up, like near my rib cage. I relaxed on the heating pad (at low heat) for about 10 minutes and it went away completely. I did some things around the house and it was fine. Then I made myself some lunch and as soon as I ate, I got the pain again. It got very severe, but it comes and goes and it goes away with the heating pad. Also, I have a fetal heart doppler at home and because I was in pain, I checked for it and still got a very strong heartbeat. So Im thinking the baby is fine, but I am in pain. Im not sure if maybe it is just bad gas pain or something serious. Anyone ever felt this? Do you really think its urgent to get to the ER even though the babys heartbeat is fine and the pain comes and goes and its so far up in my ribs? Please answer! Thanks!

    might be gas

I used to get shooting pains like that and they were ligament stretching pains. They were awful, keep the heat on it. And if you are super worried call your OBGYN

Do you drink alot of water? It might be a kidney infection. I had it on my left side as well. You might want to go to the doctor if you cant stand the pain.

It’s probably pain from gas and indigestion. Your stomach and digestive tract get pushed out of the way as your uterus grows, so you start feeling gas pains in weird places. A warm shower or bath or a heating pad will help relax your intestines so the gas bubbles can break up and move on.

I used to get the exact same thing all the time except it was always on the right side.

    Good luck!

The only time you should be worried is if your right side is painful. That’s a sign of preeclamsia. However, there’s really nothing on your left side, so it’s most likely ligament stretching. Just keep using the heating pad, take a couple tylenol and lay down. I had what you’re having too, and I went to the ER and this is what they told me to do. So good luck. :) You’ll feel all kinds of weird pains and feelings throughout pregnancy. In the end, you know it will be all worth it.

It could be your gallbladder. When hormone levels change you can have gallbladder issues. (very popular in pregnant woman) Especially after you eat- high fat foods cause even more pain. Basically your gallbladder helps aid in digestion. I had to Had mine removed after the birth of my baby due to inflammation. The gallbladder is really under the right side of your rib cage but the pain is a “tightening/ burn” in the middle of the chest and radiates. Some people feel it in their back. I hope it isn’t your gallbladder but it does sound familiar. Good luck!

i don’t know exactly where gas would affect you in your body, but i know that shortly after i found out i was pregnant, i woke up one morning, and the pressure was so bad (and painful), that i couldn’t even hardly stand up or sit down! it was a pain to deal with, but of course, i was fine!

based off of what most people have told me (i freak out this same way!), you’re going to get a lot of weird pains, and unless if they’re unbearable, they usually aren’t anything to worry about.

i’ve also been told that even though i might be feeling pain for whatever reason, the baby pretty much never is (and is fine). don’t worry!

    i’m with you!
