Hurt yourself somewhere else and focus on that pain for a while.

  2. plege_girl Says:

Have you consulted a doctor? I did when my lower back was hurting. I was prescribed an array of meds until we found something that relieved the pain without the funky side effects. I also invested in a new mattress/boxsprings set. Did wonders for me.

  3. King T Says:

Eat plenty of Vitamin B foods like Legumes, Wheat Bread, Brown rice and yeast extract

  4. Sjean Says:

Time will heal the pain and then as soon as your back feels better start doing exercises to strengthen your abs and stretch your hamstrings.

That will keep you from having another episode.

I’ve had a problem like this and it can be very painful. I went to the doctors about it and it was a spine problem. Try keeping your posture up and not to slouch especially when sitting down. Also it may help to use cushions to help, if you are worried about it try going to the doctors and get some strong pain relief.

  6. nikoleta k Says:

Good luck. I’ve been trying to do that since October. What helped me was lots of patience, painkillers by the truck load, heating pads all the time I was at home and during sleep and whan I felt a bit better, walking on a treadmill a a slow speed for a few minutes everyday,at first 10 and now I’ve reached 45. The pain will go away, you just have to be determined. Oh , lastly losing 30 pounds also helped

  7. Aileen C Says:

Use the R.I.C.E. method (below), get a massage, see a chiropractor or an MD. You don’t have to live with the pain!

Also, try using Ibuprofen to help bring the swelling down if you have any. STRETCH! Stretching is the key to releasing all sorts of pain.

Rest - get lots of rest
Ice - never heat - ice will reduce the swelling. 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off
Compression - this is difficult for back pain, but for any other joint you’d wrap with an ace bandage
Elevation - again, difficult with back pain, but great for ankles, wrists, etc.

    Good luck!

    This has workedfor me
One efffective way is to do heavy squat exercise .
ask your bro what is squat exercise.
Squat done using barbell keeping behing your neck.

  9. hans Says:

Pain killers will give you lots of side effect therefore I would recommend natrual therapy such as light therapy. Try Bioptron light therapy devices. look at then look under Bioptron.

  10. hokiematt74 Says:

how long have you had it, if more than a week seek referral to pt, if more than a month seek referral for back injections with pain management

  11. little lynna Says:

I lay on the ground or something firm and bring each knee up to my chest as far as comfortably possible. This seems to stretch my back muscles and loosen them. Combined with an anti-inflammatory and some baby-ing, usually works. The best topical application that I’ve found is called BioFreeze. You can order this on-line or get it at a physical therapy establishment. It works wonders if you follow directions.

  12. denise s Says:

use a most heat (heating pads come with cloth to wet) apply 15 minutes on then 15 minutes off. Then us cold compress for 15 on and 15 off as you would do with heat. continue, if all fail ls then contact you doctor.

  13. Jessica M Says:

The truth is try MOMENTUM. It is an over the counter back medicine that really works. Losing weight helped for me too.

  14. Rick C Says:

Don’t delay in getting it checked. A friend of mine left lower back pain go for about a month and a half. I just saw him yesterday in the hospital. He was diagnosed with cancer lesions (sp) in his back that the doctor described as”dangerous”

  15. Penelope Yelsopee Says:

Do stretching exercises for just a few minutes each morning. When you stop, the pain returns, but even after one day of stretching, you will be better.

  16. Andrea Says:

There are a whole array of issues that can cause back pain. So the correct answer would depend on what is causing it. With that said I began to have back pain fairly often. Actually it felt good during the day but the worst when I woke up in the mornings. Moderate weight exercises for the back twice a week has helped me tremendously. Now I almost never have pain.

I don’t know if what was causing mine is the same as your problem. If would be difficult for me to describe my back exercises in this answer. But you can ask a doctor, go online etc. I saw a program on back pain and copied the exercises I saw them doing in that program. Hope you feel better.

  17. rdnek4 Says:

Try laying flat on the floor with your legs bent at the knees and resting on the couch. This seems to help relax the muscles in your lower back. Also try appling a cold pad. Hope it helps.

  18. Karen K Says:

A good chiropractor will fix the problem in one visit. Do not go for the kind that make you come back once a week for ever. My chiropractor does it in one visit and only wants you to come back if it is not fixed.

  19. hinesizzle Says:

Stop getting that back banged out

  20. Herbert C Says:

Stretching the hamstring muscles, upper and lower back muscles and proper exercise along with a good diet and an activity to reduce stress and tension.

  21. nanaj Says:

I would start with a chiropractor visit. If you can’t get a recommendation for a good one, go for an old one. My senior citizen chiros have had amazing diagnostic skills, no doubt from years and years of practice. If your old guy looks and moves like a healthy man, you’ve found a winner. Then sign up for a good Yoga program. And don’t forget visualization. Visualize those muscles relaxing totally and completely and see the pain as a red cloud that disappears when the muscles relax.

  22. Kathy M Says:

I have almost completely alleviated my back pain by going to a chiropracter on a regular basis, being massaged weekly and exercising consistently. I think the exercise is the most important thing, that and having an attitude that is good. Attitude makes a world of difference. It has literally been years since I have had an episode. I have taken muscle relaxers and an occasional hydrocodone (narcotic) when I felt an episode coming on and with meds and prayer it has not escalated. Good luck.

  23. sherry b Says:

I too have lower back pain. I have a bulging disc between
L-4 and L-5 and pain pills just weren’t getting it. My chiropractor and trainer both told me that in order to take the pressure off of my back, I needed to start working on my abs. If your stomach muscles are strong they help relieve the strain on your back.

  24. cosmick Says:

    Go to the CHIROPRACTOR.

Back pain is primarily caused by a subluxation of the spine. This is where one or more of your vertebrae are out of alignment. It’s very common. A chiroprator is a spinal specialist who easily and painlessly corrects this.

Pretty much any other suggestion is merely “treating the symptom” rather than the “cause”.

If you ignore it or take painkillers the pain may eventually subside but this is only because the muscles in your back will adjust to the spine being the wrong way. This is bad and will create other associated problems including more subluxations as other parts of the spine are forced to compensate.

Once you have your spine alignment corrected (you may need a few visits if you’ve left it too long) you can assist its future flexibility and resilience by doing yoga, swimming and other such things.

  25. Suzieq Says:

I had had lower back pain for nearly 4 years and pretty much thought it was in my head.

I lost 15kg, and had a spine consult, and found out that it wasnt in my head, but that I had a scoliosis of the spine (curvature) and a spondylysithis (where the spine doenst connect fully (sp).

I have been at the chiropractor now for nearly 3 months and am nearly pain free.

It has also helped with my sinus problems and other things that I had wrong. i havent been sick since I started, even with the onset of winter.

I thoroughly recommend you see one, have x-rays and see if they can adjust you so you are comfortable. Also, I get remedial massages every fortnight which seem to help as well.

  26. Jeanne B Says:

You need a thorough medical workup. It could be that what you have using doesn’t treat what’s causing your pain. For example, I have fibromyalgia (FM). It gives me tons of pain, especially low back pain. When I get enough sleep, reduce stress, eat right, and follow the general recommendations for FM, I do quite well. But sometimes I want to do a project around the house. I will SERIOUSLY pay for that! FM is one possibility, and there are many more. Be pro-active with the doctor. Bring in a list of symptoms and results to discuss with him or her.
Whether you have one thing or another, a device called, “Light Relief” helps. It cost me $102.00, and it takes about 2 weeks to get relief, but it was helpful for me. In addition, I use medical magnets for short term relief. You can find kits with them by Homedics called “TheraP.” Another company that makes them, and they are both better and much more expensive, is by Nikken. They are known as Nikken Magnets. I hope this helps.

  27. nainap Says:

1st get an X-ray done as this back ache can be a sign of slipped disc..so go to a doctor. Once the reason is diagnosed, then you can go for physiotherapy. I had to use a belt for 6 months to alleviate the back pain. Now I am careful and avoid lifting heavy stuff.

  28. snookie Says:

Go on line to a exercise program for the back. There are some stretching exercises that you can do to help with your back pain. It will take a little while but you need to strengthen your back muscles and the exercises will help with that. If you go on line and do a search for back exercises you will get a whole list of sites that will show you the exercises to do.

  29. chris m Says:

this would be a question that your family MD should be consulted on just in the fact to make shure there are no underlying factors you are not aware of
and if there are none then massage, ice and rest

check your chair you sit in at the computer lower lumbar support bears attention always

i dont think any advil or anything like that is gonna relief u….wt u need to do…go for a good physical therapist…n that therapist could tell u how to sit in a good posture….how to lie, how to bend…n all basic excercise to get rid of the back pain…
but at the end wt u need to do for all your life time…jst tk cr off all the things whatevr therapist will tell u…n you’ll urself realize this that you were the only cause who got back pain itself

  31. webneck Says:

I have an old work injury to my back that has plagued me since 1993.
I have found that heat actually AGGRAVATES the pain, (by making the back muscles etc swell up, so you might want to COOL the heat treatment, literally.
Try an ice pack for 20-30 minutes and take one Advil instead of two and follow it an hour or so later with one Tylenol.

  32. yogarosa Says:

Try an Iyengar Yoga class. I got rid of my back pain that way and now I teach others. To find a certified teacher, check out

  33. Beverly Says:

Hi you should go to a Orthopedic Dr He/She might order a upright mri this link has back mri info

  34. irene k Says:

forget advil chex your blood sugar. there is no quick fixes for pain. if you hurt there is a reason……….find out the reason dont band aid it with drugs………..it wont take care of the problem. take time and get a 5 hr glucose test. its your body take care of it

  35. FlashMan Says:

I would go to the Doctor, I have had back problems for a long time now have always just used over the counter meds, heating pads, it only helps enough to keep me minimally functioning, I thought eventually it would heal but just always seems to get worse now I become very stiff and rigid during periods of inactivity. I have also developed severe GI problems was just recently hospitalized with severe lower stomach pain and also I have severe heartburn and trouble swallowing food also very painful, believe my over the counter pain relief has caused me severe problems be careful self treating is not so good those meds you take for pain can really mess you up if you are not very careful . Go to the Doctor and see what they recommend and avoid anything that will further mess up your back because once it is gotten to a certain point it is very hard to fix. Try to avoid extreme lifting and workouts but do not stop moving to much try light activity ask your doctor for ideas and pain management, you may also try chiropractic didn’t work for me but some people have had success, Remember avoid strenuous activity when I first had back pain it was limited to one area now three completely different areas of my back . Good luck go the Doctor and chiropractor mild to very moderate exercise and.easy on the pain meds take antacids and food milk plenty of water and take as little as possible.

  36. Bhop Says:

Aside the from the standard see a doctor answers; first, do you know the cause? overexertion, arthritis, misalligned spine.
There are supplements you can take to increase the ease of movement. Not painkillers. Painkillers have their place but not as a daily ritual.
The most important thing that i can stress(from my own experience) is a bed that will support your back the way it should.

  37. venkat v Says:

a small request bend for 2 mins

  38. ashrut c Says:

    use squat exscercise

  39. blazing_fire Says:

Along w/ what you are already doing, I would look into massage and possible chiropractic treatment.
There are also strengthening exercises you can do as well.
How’s your posture? Your shoes? your mattress?
All things to check as well.
Because they all CAN AND WILL cause low back pain.

  40. breeze1 Says:

I had a prescription for lidoderm patches. They helped tremendously. They contain lidocain.

  41. Dr.D.C.Mehta-Jamnagar Says:

Because you did not disclose your age and associated symptoms it would be difficult to answer as there are different diagnosis and reason !Any way back pain mostly is because of the sprain and strain of muscles So it is musculoskeletal or neuromuscular pain!Irrespective of cause you can use NSAID means non steroidal anti inflammatory drug like Brufen, diclofenac or nimesulide with or without paracetamol! You can do massage and also hot fomentation! If nothing helps than you should try to find out the reason !For that go for Ultra sono graphy or plain x ray for radio opaque stone in kidney ureter and also go for lateral x ray of the spines for any evidence of lumber canal stenosis or a slip disc or loss of any lumber lordosis or shadow of cold abscess ! Because many time Tuberculosis of the spine also gives this pain !Or some major diseas like multiple myeloma also gives pain ! All this can be discuused well if your age is known !If nothing found than go for Myelography !and meet your doctor for to have a clear cut diagnosis!Always YouRsmE

  42. cneault23 Says:

You should first see your Doctor to find the cause of the back pain.

Your treatment can vary greatly depending on the cause of it.

Most back problems, in my experience, are alleviated with proper instructed exercise by a Physical Therapist. Other times, medication is needed in conjunction with active exercise and stretching.

If your condition is not acute (within the last week), you should try applying moist heat or a dry heating pad to the area prior to activity.

  43. Sand King Says:

the cause of back pain could probably due to wrong posture which give stress on your spinal column.

  44. flash Says:

I have lower back pain too. I have suffered with it for years and have tried OTC medication, prescription meds, and epiderals, none of which have helped. The only thing that has helped me be pain free was physical therapy. It stretched my lower back and allowed my spine to return to its original shape.

  45. Vampyre Says:

Stretching will help along with elevating your legs at night. Sleep on your back with a pillow underneath your knees.

  46. smileyplc Says:

I experienced the same type of problem. Just like you, Advil, heating pads, etc., did little or nothing. At one point, the pain became so bad that I could not sleep at night.

I finally went to my dr. who did a CAT scan and diagnosed me w/ mild arthritis in my lower back caused by a previous injury. He told me to do certain exercises to alleviate the pain… and they worked!!! Now if I feel the pain coming back, I just do my exercises and my back feels better (thankfully, this happens only on rare occasions).

My advice to you is to see your dr., have him/her run tests, and find out what is causing the problem. Once you and your dr. know exactly why your back hurts, you can develop a plan together that will alleviate the pain.
