My dog ate baby back rib bones, what to do?
May 22nd, 2009 Posted by: admin
My dog just ate a half-rack’s worth of baby back rib bones. I set them on the counter and went to change the baby’s diaper. I came back and they were gone - only some fragments on the floor. She is a 1 year old pit-bull, springer spaniel, lab mutt.
Advice?
And, do I feed her as I normally would tomorrow?
The ribs were cooked. It was just the bones that she ate, not the meat.

She’ll be fine, rib bones are soft. As long as she didnt choke on them going down (on which case you would have known by now) more then likely she’s gonna be fine. Keep an eye on her stool and make sure that there’s no blood in it (i.e. the bones caught in it) I feed my golden lab rib bones all the time, they are nice and soft she loves them.
If you are REALLY concerned about it, trust your instinct and go see a vet, sooner rather then later.

I wouldn’t worry. Dogs eat bones, even baby puppies know that.
Sorry that she ate your dinner though.

she will be okay… i used to give my rat terriers and my dachshunds baby back ribs all the time after we came home.
the only bones that you should not feed them are chicken bones because they splinter and break easily… baby back rib bones are usually cow or pork which are usually made into dog bones anyway… there actuallly pretty good for them, for a treat.
it might make her **** a bit different but nothing to worry about.

So long as they were raw she should be fine.
Once cooked, bones splinter inside the intestines and can cause all sorts of problems.
I would not give a meal in the same day, that would equal a good feed already.

nothing u only have to worry about chicken bones or bones that will cause splinters
